That’s a 32 Ford Jeep Willies hybrid that used to have the front end of a 33.
This is the finished art for the reaper piece.
I trace the pencil sketch using ink and a brush (#2) on vellum (high grade tracing paper). Scanning the ink drawing and using Adobe Illustrator “live trace” turns the scanned art from pixels into a vector format. I prefer vector art because you can enlarge the art without losing image quality. I use the pencil tool in Illustrator with a mouse to add the color.

Due to a busy schedule, I am only able to post pencil drawings for now. Thanks – Reed
This is a concept for some freelance work. The art will be used as a logo at the top of an ebay store.
When dealing with this type of illustration, design is more important than drawing ability. The finished product will be so small all intricate details will be lost. The main concern is legibility. When the reapers hand was on the handlebars, the illustration was confusing. The illustration needed the handlebars to communicate “Four wheeler”.
The customers website sells used parts from totaled four wheelers, so I put a wrench in his hand.
This design has to communicate “grim reaper on a four wheeler” only using the silhouette of the form.

Once again, I love the pencil drawings. Ghost lines left by the eraser tell the history of the drawing.

You can control the path of the reader’s eye with the direction of the marks. Vincent Van Gogh used this a lot. I want the reader to get trapped in the second frame: first reading the copy then seeing the boy, then the house. I use the voice bubble like a giant arrow pointing to the boy. Other wise he would get lost in the scenery. The direction of the marks lead the reader from the boy to the house. The house is like a giant arrow leading the reader to the beginning with the type again.

The manic dad makes me think of early Mickey Mouse. I think the pencil drawings are more interesting than the finished art.
